Indica somniferum Purple Single
The opium poppy, also known as papaver somniferum, is an attractive and simple-to-grow plant. Although the fully developed plant has several sedative alkaloids, the seeds don't contain any psychedelic compounds.
Cultivation
The plants can also grow in a container as long as there is enough room for the roots, but the best place to grow them is in a fertilized garden with good drainage. Between September and April, the seeds can be sown whenever you like. If your area experiences many winter frosts, wait until the end of the winter or the beginning of spring to plant the seeds since those that are grown from seeds sown in the fall and winter may perish in the ensuing frosts. Spread the seeds out on the ground, then sprinkle a very thin layer of dirt over them. Keep the soil moist and water them frequently until they sprout. Within a week, the seeds will begin to sprout. Do not water them excessively at first.
