The same plant, which has a lengthy ethnobotanical history, is known by several distinct names, including Yopo, Anadenanthera peregrina, and Piptadenia peregrina. The use of this plant, which should not be confused with A. colubrina or cebil, is well recorded and extends to at least 55 native groups.

Yopo grows slowly and is challenging to raise from seed since the seeds are so prone to rotting. Soak the seeds in sterile, room-temperature water for the best results. A temperature of at least 22 oC (71 oF) is needed for germination. Keep the propagation medium away from direct sunlight and in a bright environment. To stop mold from growing, water and ventilate every day.
