The dried leaves and stemlets of the Ilex paraguarensis tree, which is indigenous to Argentina, Chile, Peru, Brazil, and Paraguay, are used to make the beverage known as yerba maté. It is an energizing beverage with a wealth of vitamins and minerals.

Usage

In order to make the maté infusion, a maté cup is filled with the dried, minced Yerba maté leaves and hot water (about 70°C). The infusion is inhaled through a "bombilla," a metal tube with a filter at the bottom to keep the leaves out of your mouth.
